A Self-Portrait, of Sorts

Not quite a likeness, but perhaps something of me.

This original oil painting is a self-portrait of sorts, built from loose, expressive marks rather than carefully observed features. A suggestion of a face emerges from layers of yellow, purple and darker strokes, before beginning to dissolve back into the surrounding colour.

Thick paint, scraped lines and overlapping forms leave the image somewhere between portrait and abstraction. It is less about recording exactly what I look like and more about what might emerge when I try to represent myself through paint.
