This painting was made without a plan.
I limited myself to two colours and worked quickly, allowing the image to emerge rather than deciding what it should be. There was no reference, no fixed destination.
What appeared feels familiar, but indistinct.
Like a dream you can almost place, but not quite.
The paint is applied very thickly. The surface matters as much as the image. At the moment, the oil is still soft to the touch. Over time it will harden and settle, but right now it feels as though the painting is still becoming itself.
That sense of growth and change is part of the work.
It exists not just as an image, but as a physical object, with weight, texture, and presence.
There is a suggestion of water, perhaps moonlight, perhaps distance. Nothing is fully resolved. It does not describe a place so much as a state.
About the work
Not all of my paintings are tied to a clear memory.
Some come from process alone, from restriction and intuition, and from allowing the paint to lead.
This work belongs to that quieter, more internal space.
Title: Half Remembered Dream
Year: 2025
Medium: Oil on stretched canvas
Size: 51 × 40.5 cm

Availability: Original, one of a kind
Process note: oil paint applied thickly with a palette knife, limited to Titanium White and French Ultramarine, completed in a single timed session.
The painting will continue to cure naturally over time, as is normal with heavily worked oil paint. This gradual settling is part of the material life of the work and does not affect its stability or longevity.
