A moment of looking at yourself.

The Boy in the Mirror is an original oil painting by Andrew Read, depicting my son looking at his reflection in a mirror.

Thickly applied oil paint builds the figures and surrounding room through layers of colour and texture. The boy is seen from behind, while his reflected face looks back towards us, creating two different views of the same moment.

It’s an everyday scene that invites a little longer look. What does he see when he looks at himself, and how does that differ from what we see?
